Keep the Cold at Bay

It’s no secret that Colorado weather can be rather unpredictable. Many people struggle to keep their homes warm during the cold months, which can be a challenge when the temperatures dip and the snow starts flying. Before you take the wrapping your windows in plastic and doubling-down on blankets, however, it may be worth taking a closer look at your walls.

The walls of your home contain the largest amount of exterior surface area, which means they’re subject to a great deal of wind load and air infiltration (leaking into your home). In many Colorado homes, walls are characterized by small cracks and gaps that not only increase the transference of warm and cool air, but can also be dangerous, acting like chimneys if a fire breaks out. If your home was built prior to 1980, it’s likely that there is little to no insulation in the walls.

Fortunately, About Saving Heat can help, and it all starts with retrofitting your walls.

How Does a Wall Retrofit Work?

The two most important factors that can influence your home’s energy efficiency are air sealing and insulation. This is especially true during the winter months, when the cold winds are blowing and drafts are nearly impossible to avoid. The answer is to insulate your walls. We use a dense pack method to ensure that no air gaps remain and that your walls are filled to the brim with blown insulation.

Once properly insulated, the walls must then be air sealed, filling up any tiny cracks and gaps that might otherwise allow for air transference to occur. It’s about tightening up your home’s “building envelope,” or the boundary between the conditioned (heated and cooled) and outdoor air. Air sealing and insulation can lead to a great number of benefits, including enhanced home performance, reduced energy bills and better indoor air quality.

Comfort, Year-Round

When many people hear the word “insulation,” the winter months come to mind. What often goes overlooked, however, is that insulation is just as important during the summer months as it is during the winter. Blown insulation in your walls can reduce heat gain during the summer by as much as 75%, keeping your family cool and comfortable on the hottest days of the year. Dense packed blown insulation can increase the R-value, or thermal resistance, of your walls, saving you money and making your home a more comfortable place to live, year-round.

Testimonials

I am no longer afraid to leave my home during cold weather, fearing freezing water pipes. After retrofit insulating, my home is much cozier, and even warmer under the sinks with no more frozen water pipes. Thank You About Saving Heat.
