I am a native resident of Colorado. Born and raised in the Denver Area. I graduated from Strasburg High School, Strasburg Colorado. After High School, I spent a couple of years trying to figure out what to do with the rest of my life, I completed a couple of years of college, but decided to enlist in the Army. I only meant to serve for 3 years. 3 years turned into 10, turned into 20, then 20+ years. I retired in 2015.
In the process of Army life, I have also owned a couple of businesses, got married, had a family, completed a few academic degrees, and decided that I wanted another career path. I found EcoTech Institute in Aurora, Colorado that specialized in renewable energy concepts. I completed an Energy Efficiency Degree and fell in love with the idea of energy conservation, recycling, and environmental respect. I met Dennis Brachfeld of About Saving Heat and his entire team, and learned to love my work as an energy efficiency consultant. I’ve been doing this work for 2 years in addition to homeschooling a “spirited teenager”. It all works out.
Q: Top three (3) highlights of my life?
1. Raising a teenager.
2. Graduating from a Technical Institute- Math and science always scared me.
3. Learning to love my work.
Q: People would be surprised to know____?
A: That I must insist on having artichoke hearts in my salad. No salad is complete without them.
Q: Who has been influential in your life?
A: My grandmother is probably my greatest influencer. She was a non-traditional woman for her time. She is whom I developed my work ethic from, and my sense of duty.
Q: What do you feel is the most beneficial energy improvement a homeowner can make?
A: The greatest improvement(s) a home owner can make aside from all of the cool stuff we do with insulation and air sealing is to become more mindful of habits they have as they relate to energy conservation. Turn off the lights when not using them. Use sweaters and warmer clothing in the winter time, open windows at night in the summer time, use fans, hang out in the basement, switch to evaporative cooling over AC. Use cool wash cycles on the clothes washer and dryer, use maximum load capacities for clothing equipment and dishwashers whenever possible. These are all simple and “free stuff” the home owner can do.
Q: If could have one super power, what would it be?
A: If I had one super power, I would be able to read and comprehend volumes and volumes of written and printed materials within hours. I absolutely love to read. It is the best way to get educated on anything!
Q: If you could spend half a day with a person from history, who would it be and why?
A: Albert Einstein. He was a genius with an imagination. A person with such intellect, having such an imagination and sense of humor has to be one of those rare gems worth knowing. He had an amazing perspective on the world.
Q: What is the weirdest job you have had?
A: I worked in a call center for Weight Watchers. This job exposed me to some of the most interesting and strangest people calling in and asking for times and locations for Weight Watchers meetings.
Q: Where was your last vacation?
A: My last vacation was visiting the Black Canyon. This is a marvelous feature in Colorado; it is just as spectacular as the Grand Canyon, albeit not as large, but gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!
Q: If you could be any animal, which would you be?
A: A cat! Cats demonstrate the laws of inertia better than any creature. When they move, they move very stealthily and efficiently, when they are at rest (napping), no creature rests better than a cat!
