Gumbo Limbo Jungle Resort, A True Belize Eco-Resort

By: Jessica Quinones, Office Manager

In June I went on a trip to Belize for a little rest and relaxation. My boyfriend booked our lodging for our stay in San Ignacio. He picked a hideaway that is a jewel in the jungle. I came to realize that it was one of the most eco-friendly resorts that I have stayed in.

I meant to grab a picture of the solar set up, but in the whirlwind of vacation I neglected to get it done. After getting checked in, which was a seamless process and included a Belikin, we headed to our cabana.

The cabana was beautiful and spacious. There were signsin our bathroom letting us know that all the water is harvested and to use it sparingly. I was intrigued by the solar panels and harvested water. I read up on the resort in their welcome packet.

Gumbo Limbo Jungle Resort is making every effort to maintain the natural environment. They are getting their energy from the sun and wind. Their water is harvested from the roofs and then filtered. They ask their guests to help preserve the natural resources and respecting the environment. Why does Gumbo Limbo choose to this? “Because its easy and it’s the right thing to do.” (As stated on their website)

The property was beautifully kept and we were able to enjoy all the sounds of the jungle during our stay. There was an intense rainstorm one night that had lightening that lit up the sky. We had an optimal viewing area from the wall of windows in our cabana. My boyfriend and I jokingly asked Alexa to play jungle sounds before we went to sleep. For the record, there was no Alexa or television. The lack of electronics made us appreciate our surroundings that much more.

They provided information about all the local attractions. The best part was that Mike gave us the best advice about cave tubing and the Mayan ruins.

It looks like you had a really great time on your vacation, the resort is worth the money. More and more people are looking for eco-friendly solutions, even when traveling. A truly reassuring experience can be lived at the Beavers Bend cabins as well. All tourists who spent a few days there share the same opinion. There's nothing more relaxing than a well deserved getaway, out in the nature.
