Remodeling? Incorporate Performance Upgrades While You Are At It

By: R. Scott Mills

A remodel could be just the excuse you need to improve the performance of your home. Older homes typically don’t adhere to the higher standard for energy efficiency that newer homes have. There are many ways to fix that during a remodeling project.

Employee Spotlight: R. Scott Mills

I was born  and raised in the San Fernando Valley in L.A., California. In 1955 my father built a high performance home that I grew up in. This started my interest in energy efficient home design. Originally a videographer in L.A., I worked at CBS as an editor. I moved to Aspen, CO in 1974 and worked in public access television and with John Denver at the Windstar foundation as a documentarian.

Employee Spotlight: Jerry (Gerald) Garner

I was born and raised in Denver. First in the Baker neighborhood, then the East Washington Park area. My father was a teacher/track coach, then administrator in the DPS. I went to South High School, heavy on shop and gym classes, not your academic type. But did attend C.U Denver Center for a year before being swept up in the beginnings of the “60’s counter culture”. I had a wide assortment of jobs through that period including book store manager and driving a cab before being hired on as a gopher for a restaurant décor installation crew traveling the country doing “theme” restaurants.

I am a native resident of Colorado. Born and raised in the Denver Area. I graduated from Strasburg High School, Strasburg Colorado. After High School, I spent a couple of years trying to figure out what to do with the rest of my life, I completed a couple of years of college, but decided to enlist in the Army. I only meant to serve for 3 years. 3 years turned into 10, turned into 20, then 20+ years. I retired in 2015.

I moved to Denver from Northern California in August of 2013. I didn’t have a reason other than I didn’t want to be in California anymore. I moved out here without a job and only what I could carry in my car. My background is in finance and the casino industry. I am happy to have landed at AboutSavingHeat.com. I have learned so much about energy efficiency and conservation.

Employee Spotlight: Dennis Brachfeld

About Dennis:

I started About Saving Heat in 1975 a year after graduating from University of Denver Business School with a degree in Real Estate Finance and Construction Management. It was two years after the Mid-East's Oil Embargo and America was experiencing unheard of energy shortages, lines at the gas pump and escalating energy prices. I knew that if every newly built home was solar heated and totally energy independent, it would still take over 50 years to represent 50% of the United States' housing stock.
